Festivities begin with a ribbon cutting by the Mayor of Wilmington James Baker, and City Council President Ted Blunt, followed by the opening of the restaurant, featuring hors d'oeuvres + spirits, allowing the public to view for the first time the newly tailored interior of the restaurant. Construction began in June, with interior design overseen by OTTO DESIGN GROUP and architecture by MITCHELL ASSOCIATES. ODG, known nationally for its work on Urban Outfitters, Stussy, MTV, and other retail flagship stores in NY, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, makes its debut into restaurant design with ZANZIBAR BLUE/WILMINGTON. ODG implements some very conceptual design approaches in collaboration with the Bynums and branding engineers MACHINE.
The new restaurant will have seperate dining and performing areas, similar to the original ZANZIBAR BLUE on 11th st. Patrons will also be able to view the open rotisserie kitchen, the two levels of dining + viewing, and further added surprises. ZANZIBAR BLUE/WILMINGTON will also be open to both the public and press for photography and video documentation.
AL PARIS, Executive Chef of ZANZIBAR BLUE, will also oversee the cuisine and execution of ZANZIBAR BLUE/WILMINGTON, as well as create a new menu. The menu is set to feature favorites like Crabcakes, Short Ribs of Beef, Big Island Bass & Shrimp Raft, yet adding an emphasis on woodfire grilled & rotisserie fare.
