Rochester, NY: The 11th Edition of the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival Presented by M&T Bank starts today!

The nine-day festival has set attendance records for the past 10 years, drawing more than 182,000 in 2011. It has pioneered the introduction of international series including Made in the UK and Nordic Jazz Now. This year's festival will deliver more than 300 concerts at 18 venues including 70 free events. Three concerts will be filmed to air nationwide on PBS stations. Another street will be closed to accommodate crowds and a new venue, Hatch Recital Hall at Eastman School has been added.

With one of the nation's most extensive international lineups, artists will travel from 14 countries including Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Scotland, Ireland, England, Norway, Sierra Leone, Hungary, Cuba, France, Italy and Russia.

Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers, Esperanza Spalding, Zappa Plays Zappa, and Daryl Hall “Live From Daryl's House" with special guest Keb' Mo', will headline this year. Concerts for Krall, Jones and Martin (two shows) are sold out. Tickets for Esperanza Spalding, Daryl Hall and Zappa Plays Zappa are on sale now at rochesterjazz.com.

Diana Krall is the opening headliner tonight at 8 p.m. The sold-out show at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre was one of several record sell-outs for this year's festival. Krall for the few still unknowing is the 41-year old sensation whose cool, heavy-lidded vocals and strikingly sensitive piano-playing has helped her transcend barriers of genre to become a popular artist of the first order who has carved herself a permanent position at the top of the jazz charts.
