Drummer honoring personal legacy to celebrate jazz appreciation by making California appearances in Larkspur, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Pedro, and Cambria.

(Detroit, MI) -- Exalt Entertainment Group, premiering jazz and spoken word artists internationally announced today that Winard Harper will appear with his sextet at several California venues to celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month during April. One of the appearances in April also includes an event coproduced by The World Stage, known as The Stage. Harper stresses that this is a tribute to his good friend Billy Higgins. The entire California lineup appearances are scheduled from April 23rd - 27th and ticket sales range from $15 to $20.

Brenda Bradley, of Exalt entertainment group, Harper's booking agency and event collaborator. Stated “Supporting our artists by honoring people and places they respect is in line with our mission of building long-term artistic relationships. We're pleased to celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month by coproducing this event."

“To celebrate the music is to play in honor of those musicians whose shoulders we stood on to get where we are today. We need to preserve the traditions, but continue the legacy of planting the music in the hearts and souls of new generations," stated Winard Harper.

On April 25th, Harper will appear at The Theater on 4305 in Leimert Park Village at an event co-produced by The World Stage. The Stage, as it is affectionately called, was founded in 1989 by Billy Higgins with poet and community arts activist, Kamau Daood in the Los Angeles community. Billy Higgins died in May, 2001.

“Playing in the places Billy helped to build up is a way of making sure his work goes on," related Harper.
