Constantly in reverence of his predecessors while remaining innovative in his own right, Winard Harper has become one of the most celebrated drummers in jazz. He is a virtuoso an on the drum set as the balafon, the West African equivalent of the marimba. Critics have commented that Harper is as pleasing and entertaining to watch as he is to hear. The group appears regularly all over the United States from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. to Yoshi's, the legendary West Coast jazz club, and internationally. He is also well known as the long-standing, dynamic drummer with the Billy Taylor Trio. Joining Winard Harper this evening are Jon Notar on piano, Dayna Stephens on tenor sax, Bruce Haris on trumpet, Ameen Saleem on bass, and Jean-Marie Collatin on percussion.
