This sophomore release by the WCQ, Lessons Learned, features 9 new original compositions by William Carn. Much like their debut CD, Other Stories, this is a very personal album, with each composition having been inspired by a particular experience or situation. Lessons Learned will be available on iTunes for download as well as music stores across Canada thanks to distribution with Timely Manor/Fontana North Records.
Adding to the excitement of this tour for the WCQ will be an educational component which will see the members of the quintet visit schools such as the University of Regina in Regina, MB, University of Saskatchewan, Western Canada High School in Calgary, AB, and Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, AB to run workshops and clinics.
The William Carn Quintet features 5 of the most exciting musicians in the Canadian jazz scene today, each of whom bring a wealth of experience to the modern jazz landscape. The William Carn Quintet is: William Carn (trombone), Kelly Jefferson (saxophones), David Braid (piano), Jon Maharaj (bass), Anthony Michelli (drums). From the swinging and swaggering to the lyrical and introspective, the WCQ always brings sensitivity to their performances.
William Carn has shared the stage with many wonderful musicians including Rob McConnell, Randy Brecker, David Binney, Kenny Wheeler, Barry Harris, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Kevin Mahogany, Mike Murley, Hilario Duran, Andrew Downing, Bernie Senensky, Don Thompson, and Phil Dwyer. In 2006 he was nominated for a Juno award for his debut release, Other Stories and has been nominated for Best Trombonist in the National Jazz Awards in both 2004 to 2007. William is also a Yamaha artist and clinician.
