Westchester Jazz Orchestra
Westchester, NY – The Westchester Jazz Orchestra is a world-class ensemble that commissions its own arrangements and performs locally, and that is made up of some of America’s finest jazz artists. Members include legendary group leaders as well as seasoned performers who have played and recorded with renowned jazz, rock, Latin, Broadway and pop stars.

On Sat., June 6 at 8 PM, this sixteen-piece big band will perform a program of Rock music from the ‘60s at the Seven Bridges School in Chappaqua. The concert will feature favorite songs of the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, the Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa, all arranged for big band. WBGO’s Gary Walker is set to host the concert. Reserved seating is $35/$30 for seniors/ $5 for students. www.westjazzorch.org. Ticket phone orders: 914-591-6602. WJO: 914-861-9100.

“This is our last concert of the season,” notes WJO Artistic Director Mike Holober, “and we wanted to give our audience – and students in particular – music that emanates from a familiar source and that also inspires great arrangements.”

WJO’s interest in attracting students is evident in the band’s $5 student price as well as their current challenge, which will end on June 6. Each school that brings 15 or more students to the June 6 concert will be entered in a drawing to win a free 2-hour educational workshop with Holober.

On the set list are George Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun” and the Stones’ “Ruby Tuesday,” both arranged by Holober, plus Stevie Wonder’s “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Up From the Skies.”

WJO received national recognition last year with the release of its debut CD, All In. The CD was named on multiple Best CDs of 2007 lists, was a WBGO Top Pick from December 2007 through April 2008, and reached #4 in nationwide radio airplay. All In also placed at #50 in JazzWeek’s Top 100 Jazz CDs of 2008.

WJO’s concerts are partially funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, ArtsWestchester and the Aaron Copland Fund for Music.

Reserved seating tickets are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors and only $5 for students. Order online at www.westjazzorch.org or by telephone at 914-591-6602. WJO: 914-861-9100. # # #
