The Third Annual West Valley Island Cultural Festival, June 14, 2015

Arizona - The Third Annual West Valley Island Cultural Festival celebrates island music and dance performances; an educational workshops for music, dance, and lectures. The festival will feature talented musicians, teachers, and dance performers, offering attendees an enjoyable experience. It is celebration of island/folk dance and music around the world.

Also, an added feature to this event will be a “Singles Corner", for singles to meet other singles. Single women are encouraged to wear their flower behind the right ear in keeping with the Hawaiian culture to let men know that they are available.

Also, something new that will take place is the presentation of awards! Lifetime Achievement Awards as well as Merit Awards will be presented to some individuals and groups for their contributions to island dances and music. Oftentimes, island/folk dance and music is often overlooked and does not get the recognition/attention that it deserves. Island dancers/musicians spend a lot of time learning and practicing, as well as money paying for lessons, costumes, traveling to the islands or workshops to continue their education in dance/music. Learning dance and playing musical instruments takes a lot of time, dedication, and hard work. And for this reason, it is time to award island dancers and musicians past and present.

There will be a special tribute to Ramsey Lewis and the Late Minnie Riperton. Kumu Hula Kalena will perform a Hawaiian Hula to the song, Les Fleur!
