Wendy Alane Wright is a New York born bi-racial singer whose collaboration with Dutch producer Rene van Verseveld and group Def La Desh resulted in several dance, pop and club hits, notably her 1990 single Feel The Rhythm" which enjoyed rotation on VH1, BET and MTV. She enjoyed other solo hit singles “Unforgiven" in 1992. Wright co-wrote, co-produced and performed featured vocals on the Tatjana Simic pop hit “Feel Good which went Platinum in Scandinavia."
A sought after vocalist Wendy has worked with many notables including; Candy Dulfer, Johnny Lang, Tony Scott, Wayne Brady, Jeff Trachta, Philip Michael Thomas, Billie Myers, Linda De Mol and blues legend Solomon Burke.
Wendy studied music mostly by listening to and emulating her favorite singers, and has honed her craft during performance runs in Europe and the States. At home in Los Angeles she keeps sharp by gigging in every possible setting including performances with Art Deco And His Society Orchestra, one of the premier Society Orchestras in the world, festivals, gala celebrity charity events most recently to raise money for Orphanages in Mexico - hosted by Edwards James Olmos and Raquel Welch - nightclubs, and big venues like the Ford Ampitheatre. In the process she has developed her vocal gymnastics, her ability to command a stage, an indescribable innate rapport with people, her contagious vivaciousness, and a style uniquely her own.
Dymanic - Wendy Alane Wright's first step toward total self-expression is her love affirming debut solo album “As I Am" (released on her own recording imprint, WendyWright Entertainment). The music was conceptualized, composed and recorded in Amsterdam, England and Los Angeles.
“As I Am" was released digitally through Music Forte and Last Fm, stimulating the appetites of listeners for Wendy's soul-stirring artistry. She poured her heart into the title track “As I Am" a great pop/r&b tune written by Grammy nominee Allan Rich, best known for co-writing Whitney Houston's song “Run To You", Natalie Cole's “I Live For Your Love" and James Ingram's “I Don't Have The Heart."
The album is filled with love songs including “Maybe This Time." Which features exquisite sax work by Nederlands jazz masters Rolf Delfos and bassist Rene van Verseveld. “That's my sexy song," Wendy laughs, “the chord changes just gets me in the mood." Maybe This Time is one of the first songs I ever wrote and I had just fallen deeply in love so my lyrics expressed my personal hope that this time it would be different and that the love would last - (Maybe This Time/It'll All Work Out/Maybe This Time/It'll Be For More Than Just One Night/Cuz I'm Ready For Good Love Baby.) Wendy says, “The idea that true love can exist... is so inspiring - By the way I married him!"
In addition to writing and singing, Wright also produced the project. All of her hard-earned time in studios, on the road working amongst great musicians and her gig as a music talent agent (representing Deniece Williams and The Four Tops) taught Wendy everything she needed to know in order to be an artist in her own right. “There aren't many women producing, editing and recording, and I enjoy of moment of the process. In fact, there is no place I would rather be than in the studio making music."
“Meant To Be Together", is a straight up jazz tune featuring extraordinary piano playing by Johan Rovenstruk, reminiscent of any song off of Anita Bakers “Compositions" album, one of Wendy's greatest influences. “After being born into the 70's roc k and 80's pop generations and missing the 20's and 30's jazz years," Wendy says, “Anita Baker's “Composition" gave me a taste of what real music and instrumentation is like. I immediately fell in love with jazz and soon afterwards discovered Miles Davis, John Coltrane and others. My favorite experience today of music is an instrumental jazz album or smooth jazz played at an open-air jazz festival where I can get lost in the music.
“Lead Me Home" is a song that Transcends singing. Wendy Alane Wright's voice is so clear and her vocal delivery is breathtaking and lifts you into another place, lending even deeper resonance to the soul searching of the lyric.
“Just A Miracle" is an opportunity to hear Wendy sing with just a Piano - played beautifully by Steven Cahil, “who I had the pleasure of working with" says Wendy.
