Engineering studies indicate that, potentially, over one million new people may be reached and reception dramatically improved for many current listeners in greater New York City and Northern New Jersey. Once a site has been chosen, WBGO will embark on a fund-raising campaign to raise the monies necessary to build and maintain the new facility.
“Relocating the antenna and transmitter will help us bring the uniquely American art form of Jazz to an even wider radio audience, while Newark and north and central New Jersey will continue to receive strong signals,” stated WBGO General Manager Cephas Bowles. “In spite of relocating the station’s transmission facility to Manhattan, WBGO’s central base of operation will remain in Newark,” and Bowles added, “WBGO, and its parent organization, Newark Public Radio, Inc., are committed to Newark, our home for the last 30 years.”
