NEWARK, NJ: The New York Association of Black Journalists (NYABJ) recognized the work of area journalists, including the presentations of three honors to WBGO Jazz 88.3, at its 25th Annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet, which took place May 14 at Time-Life in New York City.

WBGO took home three of the four awards presented in the Radio category. Assistant News Director/Anchor Andrew Meyer received two first-place awards in the Spot General News and General Feature categories for reports on Althea Gibson and Newark’s Fairmount Heights initiative. News Director/Anchor Doug Doyle was named the winner in the Sports category for his Sports Jam program with football legend Jim Brown. The WBGO News Department has won more than 60 NYABJ Awards since 1998.

Joining Doyle and Meyer at the awards celebration were Cephas Bowles, WBGO’s President/CEO, news reporter Alexandra Hill and marketing coordinator Carmen Balentine.

The evening, hosted by 1010 WINS anchor Larry Mullins and NY1 anchor Diana King, benefited NYABJ’s college scholarship fund. Musical entertainment was provided by Rhonda Ross.
