Vocalist/Composer/Arranger Kristen Lee Sergeant—New Release February 15—Smolder with Jeb Patton, Cameron Brown, Ted Nash and more!

Kristen Lee Sergeant is a vocalist with effervescent energy, musical intensity and dramatic flair. Her debut record, Inside Out, was a Downbeat Editor's Pick. Smolder is a story of fire—fully ablaze or newly extinguished, and is set to further ignite her international career.

Smolder spans '80s pop, bold interpretations of standards, and breathtaking originals—all bound together with a theme of elemental flame. Kristen is one of the rare singers who also creates her own compositions and arrangements, all with special attention to the meaning of the lyric. Never confining her musicians to mere accompaniment, there's always spontaneity and sense of musical conversation in her performances.

Kristen Lee Sergeant is a trained and experienced stage actress whose musical education took her from opera to rock before she fell in love with jazz. With such talents and a singular sense of taste, Kristen's live performances as exciting to watch as well as listen to on record.

Smolder CD release performance is March 26 at Birdland with Ted Nash, Helen Sung & more!

What the press is saying...

“A special singer can evoke a thermometer's span of temperatures while sustaining a singular fire within. Kristen Lee Sergeant is special." —Bob Blumenthal

“Dramatically fresh arrangements...Sergeant puts her theatricality to superb use...we hope to hear more in the future." —Bobby Reed, Downbeat Magazine

“Fearless and thoughtful, instinctively unearthing a song's latent possibilities in ways that other musical performers haven't, Sergeant recalls the talent for devil-may-care, in-your-face originality associated with Anita O'Day, Abbey Lincoln or Carmen McRae." —eJazznow.com

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
