VIX Records released the fourth solo effort from renowned drummer J. D. Blair, AKA “The Groove Regulator,” entitled 2012? as a digital download on February 13, 2012. The CD version will be released in late May 2012 to coincide with the Victor Wooten tour.

In his 30 plus year career, J. D. Blair has developed a résumé that has found him reaching across the lines of musical genres as a performer, session player and touring drummer. Whether it is jazz, gospel, funk, pop, Contemporary Christian or country, Blair delivers the goods. Based in Nashville, it was inevitable that the country music world would come calling; he has performed behind some of the biggest names in country music, including Wynonna Judd, Lyle Lovett, Shelby Lynne, and one of the biggest names in music history, Shania Twain, earning him the title of “2000 Country Drummer of the Year” by Drum! Magazine. As a much sought after session player, Blair has recorded with India.Arie, Bootsy Collins, Tommy Emmanuel, Wynonna Judd, Lyle Lovett, Shelby Lynne, Yo-Yo Ma, Natalie MacMaster, Donnie McClurkin, Point Of Grace, Shania Twain, BeBe and CeCe Winans, and Victor Wooten, just to name a few. In 2011, Blair and Wooten toured Europe as a jazz/funk duo on their 2 Minds 1 Groove tour.

2012? is an eclectic mix of instrumentation, heavy on the groove, and featuring world-class musicianship. The 15 instrumental tracks include a symphonic ballad, a Celtic jig, and two solo drum tracks. This combination of both original and cover songs was recorded in a variety of locations and studios with a multitude of special guests that include: Victor Wooten, Andrew Ramsey, Paul Allen, Natalie MacMaster, Joel Goodwin, Darrell Tibbs, Kat Dyson, Vic “C”, Roy “Futureman” Wooten, Shane Hendrickson, Gary Motley, Joseph Wooten, Erin Leahy, and so many more!

VIX RECORDS is owned by five-time Grammy® winning bassist, author, and educator, VICTOR WOOTEN, most recognized for his contributions to Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. However, his solo efforts and his collaborations with folks such as Stanley Clarke, Bruce Hornsby, India.Arie, and Dave Matthews have led him to be regarded as one of the greatest bass players of all times. Wooten started VIX RECORDS in spring 2011 with the reissue of his solo debut, A Show of Hands 15, and recently released the soundtrack to the audio-book version of his book, The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music.

Wooten comments, “J. D. is one of the most versatile drummers out there! He really hit a home run with this 2012?. It will put him on the map as not only a great drummer, but a great musician, composer, and visionary."
