Vince Seneri at Zanzibar Blue with Dave Valentin, Paul Bollenback and Randy Brecker!

Vince Seneri blazes his way back to Zanzibar Blue, in Philly, August 25th, 26th, & 27th. His special guests will be the legendary Randy Brecker, master guitarist Paul Bollenback, and Grammy award-winning jazz flutist Dave Valentin. Zanzibar Blue is located at 200 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19102, (215) 732-4500.

Vince Seneri has been pleasing audiences for over twenty years. He is one of the most talented and dynamic 'burners' of the Hammond B3 organ on music scene today. Endorsed by Hammond Suzuki Organ Company, USA and on the Senful Record Label, he is in demand for nightclubs, shows, theaters, festivals, and concerts.

Raised in Hackettstown, NJ - 50 miles west of New York City, Vince began his musical career on the accordion at the age of six. His father, accordionist Peter Settineri, bought a Hammond organ and introduced that instrument to his son as well.

During his teens, it was the great Jimmy Smith who musically influenced Seneri more than any other jazz organist, “I've admired Jimmy Smith since I was 10 years old, the time I started playing B3 organ and keyboards. He was my hero." He also admired and was greatly influenced by other organists like Jimmy McGriff, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Richard Groove Holmes, The Mighty Burner Charles Earland, Larry Young, Captain Jack McDuff, Ronnie Foster, Wild Bill Davis, Don Paterson. His piano influences were Oscar Peterson, Wynton Kelly, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock among others. Barry Harris and Dr. James Williams were also great influences who he was fortunate to study with. Vince is also a graduate of Rutgers University located in Newark, New Jersey where he received his BA degree in marketing.

Leading his own band, Vince Seneri has had the privilege of performing and recording with some of the finest musicians in the world, i.e. Dave Valentin, Houston Person, David “Fathead" Newman, Buddy Williams and many more. Vince has several CD recordings, most recently Street Talk, which received rave reviews and is considered the best new B3 record for 2005.

Randy Brecker has been shaping the sound of Jazz, R and B and Rock for more than three decades. His trumpet and flugelhorn performances have graced hundreds of albums by a wide range of artists from James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Chaka Khan, George Benson and Parliament- Funkadelics to Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, David Sanborn, Horace Silver, Jaco Pastorius and Frank Zappa.

Guitarist Paul Bollenback attended the University of Miami as a music major, he later studied privately for eight years with Baltimore-based professor of Theory/Composition, Asher Zlotnik. In 1993 while touring in Europe Paul was awarded a grant from the Virginia Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts to compose and perform “New Music for Three Jazz Guitars". In 1997, Bollenback was named Musician of the Year at the Washington Area Music Awards, and became an Adjunct Professor of Music at the American University in Washington, DC. In addition to his continued associations with Gary Bartz, Jeff “Tain" Watts, Joey DeFrancesco, Joe Locke, and East Meets Jazz, Paul continues to tour with his own groups this season, and continues to teach at Queens College, New York, the New School and at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore.

Born in the South Bronx in 1952 to Puerto Rican parents from the city of Mayaguez, Dave Valentin studied percussion at New York City's High School of Music and Art before taking up the flute at the age of 16. Private lessons with master jazz and classical flutist Hubert Laws and early professional work with some of the leading Latin bands of the day quickly established the young musician as a rising star on his instrument. In 1979 Valentin recorded his first album as a leader, initiating an successful and long-running association with GRP, a contemporary jazz label noted for its all-star roster and pioneering role in digital recording technology. The partnership produced 16 albums and solidified Valentin's position as one of the best selling Latin instrumental artists of the era, as documented by a Grammy nomination and selection by the readers of JAZZIZ Magazine for six consecutive years as the top flutist in jazz.

Vince Valentin will perform at Zanzibar Blue, in Philly, August 25th, 26th, & 27th with very special guests Randy Brecker, and Dave Valentin. Zanzibar Blue is located at 200 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19102, (215) 732-4500.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
