DJ duo selects favorites songs from legendary label’s archives

Verve Records will release Sounds from the Verve Hi-Fi, a compilation of rare and classic Verve Records tracks chosen by renowned mixologists Thievery Corporation, on January 29th, 2002.

For Sounds from the Verve Hi-Fi, Rob Garza and Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation extracted a number of genre-spanning songs from the legendary label’s vaults, creating a collection that displays the kind of musical variation which has characterized Verve since the 1960s; bossa nova, Latin jazz, samba, hard bop, and 1960s folk exotica are all represented on the collection. Though Garza and Hilton often favor Verve’s Brazilian and Afro-Cuban offerings in their influential DJ sets, Sounds from the Verve Hi-Fi is stylistically inclusive, a unique look into both the Verve catalog and Thievery Corporation’s personal record library.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
