Trumpeter Dizzy Reece, who's been based in the US for many years, heads home to Jamaica to perform in a concert to benefit the restoration of Kingston, Jamaica landmark the Holy Trinity Cathedral.

The concert takes place on Sunday April 13 at the residence of the Roman Catholic Archbishop in Kingston (21 Hopefield Avenue). Also set to perform are Jamaican trumpet maestro Mickey Hanson, and drummer Desi Jones with his band, Skool.

Reece has distinguished himself on the international jazz stage since the mid-1950s, where he played in England with the likes of Tubby Hayes and other English jazz legends before moving to the United States under the auspices of Blue note Records' Alfred Lion. His most recent release is Nirvana.

In addition to his playing and composing, Reece, who has received the Prime Minister's Independence Award in addition to other accolades, is a prolific writer and sometime painter.

The Holy Trinity Cathedral was built in 1911, in the wake of a massive earthquake that destroyed much of the capital city.
