Troy Trombone Shorty" Andrews' media profile continues to explode with several national television performances in recent and coming weeks. Included are a featured appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on September 23, a special guest spot with Ricky Minor and The Tonight Show band on September 30, and nation-wide airing of PBS' Austin City Limits on October 23. The 24-year-old funk/rock star who burst onto the national scene with his Backatown debut (released April 20 on Verve Forecast), recently made his late night debut on the Late Show with David Letterman and played a recurring role as himself on HBO's hit New Orleans drama Tremé. His song Hurricane Season" can be heard weekly on MTV's The Real World, New Orleans as the opening title song.
As one of the most important musicians to rise out of New Orleans in a generation, he was among a select few Crescent City musicians chosen to perform live at the NFL Kickoff show event with Dave Matthews Band on September 9th just before the Saints game on opening day in New Orleans. NBC TV also aired a segment with Troy playing in the French Quarter with Grandpa (Playing for Change) Elliot which was used during the broadcast as a commercial wraparound.
On the eve of the NFL Kickoff, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue also played, along with Robert Randolph & the Family Band at the NFL Kickoff 2010 Eve event at the House of Blues on Wednesday, September 8th to a football celebrity packed house. In addition to his own high energy set, Troy joined Robert Randolph and the Family Band for a jam that included the legendary Allen Toussaint and members of Dave Matthews Band. Troy and the NFL have a history, last year he appeared on Good Morning America and ESPN's SportsCenter in the run-up to the Super Bowl. And Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue are about to add some more history with The Dave Matthews Band as they have just been chosen to support the final four dates on DMB's 2010 tour.
All this visibility as Trombone Shorty continues to crisscross the globe spreading the music he has dubbed Supafunkrock" since the release of Backatown. After recently returning from performing knockout shows in Andrews' Japanese debut at the acclaimed Fuji Rock Festival, followed by gigs in Rio and Sao Paolo, the band is currently headlining shows across North America before they head back to Europe for a coveted opening slot on Jeff Beck's U.K. tour prior to the DMB shows in November below.
