New York, NY --No Nonsense (Reservoir Music), the new CD from John Fedchock's New York Big Band (www.JohnFedchock.com) sets the standard for modern ensembles of its kind. Balancing Fedchock's artistic vision with the expressive needs of his players, No Nonsense features lush, compelling and brilliant compositions melded into a coherent and distinct musical persona. Formerly Woody Herman's featured soloist, chief arranger, and musical director, Fedchock has risen through the musical ranks to emerge as leader of one of the freshest, most exciting big bands in jazz.

In conjunction with the release of No Nonsense, Fedchock embarks on an international tour, which takes him from New York, across the United States and into Europe and South Africa (see tour schedule below.)

John Fedchock's New York Big Band has received widespread critical praise and acclaim since the release of its self-titled 1995 debut CD (Reservoir Music RSR CD 136), and continuing through its 1997 follow-up recording, On the Edge (Reservoir RSR CD 153). John's name has appeared in Down Beat's Readers Poll under the “Trombone," “Arranger," and “Big Band" categories simultaneously every year since the band's first release. Meanwhile, the New York Big Band keeps moving forward.

“With each CD," says Fedchock, “the band continues to evolve. Some of it is due to my writing, and a lot of it is because the players themselves evolving as soloists. As a bandleader, it's a great luxury to have musicians of this caliber in my group."

Featuring Fedchock originals, along with Fedchock's arrangements of tunes by such notable favorites as Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Thelonious Monk, and Duke Ellington, “No Nonsense" showcases the caliber of some of the best players in the business.

Fedchock established his career as a rising star almost two decades ago, when he joined the legendary Woody Herman Orchestra. He toured with Woody's 'Thundering Herd' as a featured trombone soloist, became musical director and, later on, chief arranger of Herman's last two Grammy-nominated albums, 50th Anniversary Tour and Woody's Gold Star. In addition to his tenure with the Thundering Herd, Fedchock has also performed with jazz greats Gerry Mulligan, Louie Bellson, T.S. Monk and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band. A strong advocate for arts in education, Fedchock is a graduate of Ohio State University with degrees in Music Education and Jazz Studies. He also holds a masters degree in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media from the prestigious Eastman School of Music. For more information or an updated tour schedule, go to www.JohnFedchock.com.
