Vocalist Julie Michels' intense, original, and joyous sound grabs familiar melodies from every decade and welds them to original and wonderfully thick chords influenced by every international tradition. Her ability to phrase a lyric and improvise over a melody gives every song a clarity that stays in your mind long after the band stops playing. Julie Michels is, quite simply, a woman with a beautiful voice, a big, multi-colored voice that is a perfect compliment to every song she touches.

Rare and wonderful, this band of marvelous musicians plays from the broader canvas of latin, jazz, and pop, and reconcieves the music into hip and festive latin grooves. Led by the fierce musicianship of vocalist Julie Michels, Parley includes guitarists Kevin LaLibert and Kevin Barrett, along with bassist Drew Birston and percussionist Mark Duggan. Together they project a magical combination of exceptional talent and great big spirits.

About the Academy

Founded in 1991, The Academy of Spherical Arts in Liberty Village is housed in the historic premises of the Brunswick manufacturing company, producer of fine Canadian billiards tables and accessories. Expanded over time to include four distinct event spaces, the Academy is proud to be able to present live jazz in La Belle Epoque, an exposed brick and wood beam space with a lovely ambiance, good sight lines, and great acoustics.
