Tony Adamo & Mic Gillette A Little East Bay Grease Goes a Long Way Roc Armani - UrbanZone Productions

Their musical friendship sparked in 1999 when a member of the group, Cold Blood, arranged for Mic Gillette and Skip Mesquite, Tower of Power (TOP) originals, to record with singer/songwriter, Tony Adamo. Since then, they've both played on Adamo's previous CD, Dance of Love and are currently playing on five songs on his new CD to be released in 2006. Mic Gillette, a very talented and hip arranger, has written all the horn arrangements to these five tunes: “No Strings," “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy," “Lolita," “Up in It," and “Groove Therapy." Mic (trumpet, trombone) and Skip (tenor and baritone sax) recently recorded on Adamo's tune, “Groove Therapy" at the legendary Different Fur Studio in San Francisco. Mic came up with another brilliant horn arrangement for “Groove Therapy." He really laid out the grease on this one. Soon radio airwaves will give birth to Adamo's funkn revolution. Adamo wrote this tune with the Funky Doctor, “Doc Kupka" in mind of the famed Tower of Power band. The rhythm section on this tune includes Neil Larsen (organ), Ready Freddy Washington (bass), James Gadson (drums), and Jerry Stucker (producer/guitarist). Stucker was also at the helm for producing this song.

Mic Gillette was an integral part of the Tower of Power horn section for nineteen years and still periodically sits in with TOP. Mic now tours with Bill Champlin's, Sons of Champlin and has just released his long awaited CD Ear Candy. To purchase this CD go to www.micgillete.com. Skip Mesquite was Tower of Power's original lead tenor sax player. Skip can be heard on TOP's East Bay Greaseand Bump City. His solo on “You've Got to Funkifize" is one of the most memorable solo performances in TOP's vast repertoire. Skip and Mic still tour together as a horn section with Lenny Williams and many other notable performers.
