Stockton, CA The Dave Brubeck Quartets classic album Time Out was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame as one of the most significant albums of our time.

Additionally, the album is getting a second look. Legacy Records, a division of Columbia Records, announced last week that it will remaster Time Out along with albums by Miles Davis and Charles Mingus.

Time Out was one of five jazz albums released in 1959 that are considered to have changed the course of American music. It was the best selling album of all genres in 1959 and would remain on the Billboard charts for three years. It also was the first jazz album to sell more than 1 million copies, and is still among the top 10 best-selling jazz albums of all times. The best selling album, Kind of Blue by Miles Davis, was also released in 1959 and is among the five albums cited by music historians.

The other albums are Mingus: Ah Um by Charles Mingus, Giant Steps by John Coltrane and The Shape of Jazz to Come by Ornette Coleman.

On April 1, Darius Brubeck Dave Brubecks oldest son will host a concert exploring all five of the albums and will explain between songs the impact that they have on music today. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Faye Spanos Concert Hall on the Stockton Campus. Tickets cost $10 each, $5 for seniors and are free for students. Tickets will be sold at the door and also are available at www.tix.com.

On April 3, The Dave Brubeck Quartet will perform Time Out in its entirety at Faye Spanos Concert Hall in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the classic album. Tickets for the concert are sold out.

The Dave Brubeck and Darius Brubeck concerts are part of the annual Brubeck Festival, presented March 28 through April 4 in Stockton by the Brubeck Institute with cooperation from the Miracle Mile Association and the Stockton Symphony. More details about other concerts and events during the festival can be found online at www.brubeckinstitute.com.
