Three Nights Of Avant Jazz Improvised Free Natural Music In Tucson, AZ/ May 2,3 &7

Sunday May 2: The performance at Club Congress will chart new sonic territory with three freely improvised sets featuring George Haslam (Mal Waldron/Lol Coxhill/Borah Bergman) on baritone sax and tarogato, Glenn Weyant (The Running Dogma Collective) on tenor sax and processed found objects, and Lou and Michael Golden (The Sun Ra Arkestra) on a variety of instruments. Sets will be punctuated with readings by local poets and performance artists. Special simultaneous showing of the 1922 classic Nosferatu. The show starts at 9 p.m.. Admission is only $5. Monday May 3: Mat Bevel Institute, presented by Zeitgeist will begin with a solo improvised acoustic performance by George Haslam on baritone sax and tarogato. George will then be joined by Glenn Weyant on tenor sax, singing bowls and piano for improvisations in a duo setting. The show will conclude with a group improvisation featuring George, Glenn, Lou and Michael Golden who will add a panoply of reeds, percussion and keyboards in making improvised music. Special guests and poetry readings are expected. The show begins at 8 p.m. Admission is only $7. The Mat Bevel Institute is located at 530 N. Stone Ave. (just north of Sixth Street). Friday, May 7: This final all acoustic performance in the series at the newly opened Club La Nuitwill explore the sonic limits of free improvisation. Built around solo performances by George Haslam on baritone sax and tarogato, Glenn Weyant on tenor sax and flute, Lou and Michael Golden on reeds and percussion instruments the quartet will merge voices, blurring the line between thought and expression. Spoken word interludes by area poets and special guests will be featured. This show begins at 9 p.m.. Admission is only $4. Club La Nuit is located at 310 East Congress St. (across from Hotel Congress).
