Tapping into the vast resources of Thirsty Ear's much-heralded Blue Series, President Peter Gordon will be curating two weeks at The Stone, from October 1st to October 15th.

From free jazz masters, legends in their own time, to some of the most innovative hip-hop and electronic music producers, to individuals whose music defies any such labeling, the artists of Blue Series have pushed the envelope of the avant-garde and their compositions have come to encompass some of the most exciting developments in creative music since the turn of the new millennium.

Vernon Reid will kick off the live series on Saturday October 1. NY NOW! will feature a two-night stand by Blue Series artistic director Matthew Shipp's trio highlighting material from his 2011 live album “Art of the Improviser" and previewing music from his upcoming 2012 release “Elastic Aspects."

A number of other Thirsty Ear artists will also be debuting material from forthcoming releases. Greg Ward's Phonic Juggernaut will preview their self-titled debut (Oct. '11) and the duo of Mary Halvorson and Jessica Pavone will play music from their upcoming release “Departure of Reason" (Nov. '11). Compositions from Dawn of Midi's as of yet untitled debut and the forthcoming studio release of the Weasel Walter, Mary Halvorson, & Peter Evans trio will also be previewed.

Beyond the Thirsty Ear album debuts, NY Now! will include four group performances led by Mat Maneri, two ensembles led by Lafeyette Gilcrest, DJ Spooky and the Antartica Ensemble's “The Book of Ice," two shows by Elliott Sharp, a set by the Mara Rosenbloom quartet, a performance by High Priest of Anti-Pop Consortium, and “Army of One," a solo set by Jessica Pavone (and much more!).

Since its beginning in 2000, the story of the Blue Series has been one of focused and organic evolution. These outstanding musicians are emblematic of its continual growth and NY NOW! will be a key moment in another extraordinary and transformative chapter in the life of both the Blue Series and Thirsty Ear Recordings.
