Genre -bending, -skipping and -skirting, German born vocalist/composer Theo Bleckmann, has performed worldwide from Carnegie Hall, Zankel Hall to the Sydney Opera House with artists like Laurie Anderson, Anthony Braxton, Steve Coleman, Dave Douglas, John Hollenbeck, Sheila Jordan, Ben Monder, the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and Mark Morris Dance Group, Bang On A Can All-stars and Meredith Monk . The New Yorker called him a “local cult favorite", the New York Times “excellent" and according to OUT Magazine Bleckmann is a singer who has only recently fallen to earth." Bleckmann's latest recording “Origami" (Songlines) garnered great critical praise including 4 +1/2 stars (out of 5) from Downbeat Magazine. His voice can be heard on over 20 recordings found on ECM, CRI, Label Bleu, Polygram, Songlines, Traumton and Winter &Winter.

TheoBleckman JohnHollenbeck DUO

These two New York improvisers intimately create melodious and mercurial soundscapes. Bleckmann and Hollenbeck work with layering, contrast and harmony using voice, drums, percussion, found objects, low-tech electronic gadgets and toys. Both have been working in the New York jazz and improvisers scene for almost a decade performing with such greats as Anthony Braxton, Laurie Anderson, Bang On a Can and Merce Cunningham Dance Company (Theo Bleckmann) and Bob Brookmeyer, David Liebman, Cuong Vu and Mark Morris Dance Group (John Hollenbeck). They have been performing as a duo since 1997, appearing throughout the US and Europe. They also perform together on Hollenbeck's quartet lucy which was released on blueshift/CRI as well as Hollenbeck's no images and Bleckmann's latest project for Songlines Recordings, origami. Both are currently touring the US in Meredith Monk and Ann Hamilton's latest music theater piece, Mercy.
