Touré-Raichel Collective, a collaboration between global superstars Vieux Farka Toure of Mali and Idan Raichel from Israel, was forged from a chance encounter at a German airport. Their growing friendship led to a performance at the Tel Aviv Opera House in November 2010. After that remarkable concert, Vieux and Idan, joined by Israeli bassist Yossi Fine and Malian calabash player Souleymane Kane, spent an afternoon jamming in a small intimate studio in Tel Aviv. The resulting recording—acoustic, spontaneous, entirely improvised, and stunningly beautiful is the foundation for their debut album The Tel Aviv Session, out March 27, 2012 on Cumbancha.

Idan, Vieux, Yossi and Souleymane improvised a masterful selection of songs that encompass the unbridled creativity and inspired collaboration of these four brilliant musicians. With additional contributions by a number of special guests, the final result is an album that will bring to mind classics such as Talking Timbuktu by Ali Farka Toure with Ry Cooder, Keith Jarrett's The Köln Concert or Ballake Sissoko & Vincent Segal and Ballake Sissoko & Vincent Segal's acclaimed Chamber Music.

The Touré-Raichel Collective will be showcasing their music with a North American tour that kicks off in New York on April 13th and touches down in Boston, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Chicago, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Vancouver. Full tour dates below. Their live concert reflects the natural spontaneity and free-form creativity of the recording sessions, allowing audiences to experience firsthand the invention of sublime and transcendent music that crosses boundaries of country, culture and tradition.
