“Hot Jazz is Still Sizzling!

“The Spirit of Django Reinhardt" concert event celebrates the music of legendary gypsy guitarist DJANGO REINHARDT and a musical style known as “Le Jazz Hot" born in Paris in the 30's where Django teamed with famed jazz violinist STEPHANE GRAPPELLI to create The Hot Club Quintette. The rest is history as a new an exciting form of jazz emerged and took Europe by storm.

This year's concert features The John Jorgenson Quintet. Jorgenson is far and away one of the best interpreters of Django Reinhardt's material. His Quintet has astounded audiences worldwide performing standards from the gypsy jazz repertoire. He re-created Django's music for the feature films “Gattica" and also “Head in the Clouds" in which he portrayed the legendary guitarist with stars Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz. He is also a former member of the Elton John Band and has recorded with Sting, Pavarotti, Streisand, Benny Goodman...

Jorgensen joins our regular gypsy stars from France, legendary lead guitarist - DORADO SCHMITT, young lead and rhythm guitar - SAMSON SCHMITT, virtuoso violinist - PIERRE BLANCHARD, and accordionist/ accordina master - LUDOVIC BEIER who are all returning, due to popular demand.

BRIAN TORFF, one of Stephane Grappelli's favorite bassists, will be on bass and serve as Musical Director. The Special Guest will be Colombian jazz harpist - EDMAR CASTANEDA . Sound unusual to have a jazz harp with the music of Django? Well it is, but it works! As Producers, Philips and Stratta enjoy being a little daring and adventurous.

Going into it's 5th anniversary, 'The Spirit of Django Reinhardt' concert will again be held at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, presented by ABSENTE, Absinthe Refined. This project renews the successful collaboration of Producers, Pat Philips and Ettore Stratta, with Michel Roux, distributor of ABSENTE, for whom they presented over '50' major concert events in the late 80's and 90's when he headed Adsolut Vodka. Roux, one of the most inventive, creative, and artistic marketing men in the business again is associating one of his brands with the arts.

Join us for a swinging, rip roaring, and also romantic evening of some of your favorite standards along with new original songs presented in the style of DJANGO REINHARDT. It's hot!

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
