The American singer Dee Dee Bridgewater will be in charge of opening the 15th International Dixieland Festival of Tarragona, that will take place from 11th to 16th March 2008. The jazz diva will be performing at the Metropol Theatre on Tuesday 11th March 2008 at 21:30. The show Bridgewater will be offering in Tarragona is a premiere in Catalonia.

Dee Dee Bridgewater -the Paris black diva, though born in the USA- is one of the tangible realities in vocal jazz today, and her future is expected to be even better. Her international acknowledgement came definitely with the Grammy Prize in 1997 to the best female jazz singer. This was a decisive recognition to her long career, as she has collaborated with confirmed jazz figures like Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins or Dexter Gordon. Also, she has taken part in North-American Broadway musicals, where she has interpreted Billie Holiday, or at the revue Sophisticated Lady about Duke Ellington. The concert in Tarragona will present her private trip to the African roots of jazz and to her own roots: Red Earth, A Malian Journey. The UN appointed her ambassador for the FAO, an institution that fights against the great problem of hunger.
