The Nash Announces A Search For Managing Director

Jazz in Arizona Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, is seeking a full-time Managing Director. Jazz in Arizona owns and operates The Nash, a world-class performance and education venue located in the heart of one of America’s most vibrant arts districts, Roosevelt Row, in Phoenix, AZ. The mission of Jazz in Arizona is to celebrate the rich tradition and ongoing innovation of jazz by presenting quality live performances, providing unique educational programs and building a vibrant jazz community.

The Managing Director is the key leader of Jazz in Arizona, Inc., responsible for overseeing all administrative functions including day-to-day policy and operations, finance, fundraising, marketing, human resources, programs, communications, community engagement and the organization’s strategic plan. The Managing Director reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or an Arts field, ideally in music or arts administration; direct experience in arts administration and/or small business management; experience working with or serving on non-profit or for-profit organization boards; be technologically savvy; have general management, fundraising and marketing skills, the ability to work a flexible schedule and a personal connection with the organization’s mission, the arts, and a familiarity with jazz.

Jazz in Arizona/The Nash History

Jazz in Arizona, Inc. was founded in 1977 to encourage and support the performance and appreciation of America’s great original art form of jazz. From 1977 through the following three decades, the organization presented jazz, including performances in various venues, Sunday afternoon monthly jazz parties in hotels and restaurants, jazz education programs in elementary schools. It provided scholarships to young talented musicians, published a monthly newsletter with calendars of jazz happenings around the state, and in other ways delivered on its mission. A great transition occurred in 2012 when Jazz in Arizona opened the doors of its own education and performance venue, The Nash, which is now recognized as a revolutionary model in America for galvanizing the jazz community of students, educators, musicians and listeners. Named for Lewis Nash, world-renowned jazz drummer and Phoenix native, it has become a home to local artists and destination venue for national and regional artists, having been named to Jazz in Arizona/The Nash announces a search for Managing Director Magazine’s List of Great Jazz Venues in the World for 5 consecutive years.
