Baltimore ~ Caton Castle Jazz Club in association with New Jazz Audience Multi-Media Entertainment Group presents The Masters of Jazz Series: 2 evenings of JAZZ POWER in BALTIMORE with HighNote Records artist HOUSTON PERSON, a recipient of a song list of jazz awards. Tenor saxophonist, Houston Person began his solo career in 1961 and has recorded upward to 75 albums under his own name. Appearing as a guest artist on the recordings of Etta Jones, Lena Horne, Lou Rawles, Dakota Staton and many others. Person has an eclectic background in the world of American Music.

Houston Person can be counted among the guttiest of the gut bucket saxophonists of the soul-jazz golden age -- and currently among the top living Jazz legends in America today. For proof, look no further, the Jazz Master and his quartet will appear at Caton Castle Jazz Club located at 20 South Caton Avenue in Baltimore, MD, The Greatest City in America for Jazz & Crab Cakes. Performances will be on Friday, May 13th, 2005, 9 o'clock PM until 1 o'clock AM and Saturday, May 14th, 2005, 6 o'clock PM until 10 o'clock PM.

Compiled among Houston Person's 75 plus recording is two of the saxman's most popular releases, Person to Person! and Houston express. Express featuring the “funkmaster general" of the tenor saxophone with a tight, pocket-sized ensemble (including guitarist Grant Greeen and drummer Idris Muhammad), while, on Person!, his supporting ensemble expanded to include trumpet players Cecil Bridgewater and Thad Jones, guitarist Billy Butler and another kindred spirit and prince of funk on his instrument, Motown bassist Gerry Jemmott.

In a reprise of his past spectacular appearances in Charm City with the late Etta Jones, tenor saxophonist Houston Person returns to Baltimore. This time, he brings the energy and virtuosity of his quartet of renowned jazz musicians: Stan Hope, piano; Per Ola-Gadd, bass; and Chip White, drums to one of Baltimore's only “true" Jazz rooms, Caton Castle Jazz Club. Voted, Best Jazz Club by the City Paper.
