Sistas' Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue at Jefferson Ave. (where Jazz: Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is a Weapon), presents the Ed Cherry Group, Saturday, February 12, at 9 and 10:30 pm.
Guitarist Ed Cherry brought in New Year's Eve at Sistas' Place with the Craig Harris/Sekou Sundiata project and was such a sensation, he was asked to come back with his own group. The quartet he'll have on Saturday, featuring Brian Carrott on vibes, Jerome Harris on bass and drummer Diego Voglino, proposes excitement.
Mr. Cherry probably is best known for his 14 years with the great Dizzy Gillespie but he has also worked with such heavyweights as Sam Rivers, Henry Threadgill, Paquito D'Rivera and Big John Patton to name a few. Jerome Harris has performed at Sistas' Place several times before with Vincent Chancey's group but he made a reputation for himself through years of working with Sonny Rollins. Byran Carrott is an impressive soloist whose work has become stronger with each hearing.
