The trio last appeared in Pittsfield
during 2015, as part of a sold-out centennial tribute to Billie Holiday
and composer/pianist Billy Strayhorn
. Often appearing as a duo, Matt and Atla appeared earlier this month at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola
, at Lincoln Center in New York. Located in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts about 40 miles from Albany
, Pittsfield is the cultural center of the Berkshires.
The cabaret-style performance is part of Pittsfield’s sixth annual 10x10 Upstreet Arts Festival, during which cultural institutions present 10-themed programs, such as new 10-minute plays; readings of 10 poets; 10 days of play at the Berkshire Museum, etc. Berkshires Jazz’ past 10x10 programming has featured either instrumental or vocal approaches: 10 decades of jazz piano; the works of 10 jazz composers, the styles of 10 jazz vocalists, etc. The Flavours program will feature both instrumental and vocal stylings, and will include an original by pianist Matt DeChamplain.
