The Blue Room, one of the Down Beat Magazine’s top ranked jazz clubs, has another week of great performances lined up.

The Blue Monday Jam kicks off on July 16th with Dr. Todd Wilkinson a saxophone virtuoso whose talents have had him performing and teaching around the country. Musicians bring your instruments and join the jam.

On Thursday July 19th, see saxophonist Horace Washington, one of the continued purveyors of the old “Kansas City” styles of jazz. Washington has been a fixture on the local jazz scene for years and is a Blue Room favorite.

The female jazz vocal trio, Book of Gaia, headline the Friday, July 20th show. The trio consists of Pamela Baskin-Watson, Angela Hagenbach, and Nedra Dixon. All three women are established solo acts and formed this super group of singers to express their combined love of music.

This week’s line up closes out with the Matt Otto Quartet on Saturday, July 21st. Otto is a native of Southern California who has quickly garnered a lot of respect and acclaim in the Kansas City jazz scene for his dynamic skills on the saxophone.

The mission of the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City is to celebrate and exhibit the experience of jazz as an original American art form through Performance, Education, Exhibition and Research.
