The Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society Announces 2007-2008 Season

The Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society announces its seventeenth season of exceptional jazz concerts at The Baltimore Museum of Art. One of Baltimore's premiere jazz concert series, BCJS continues to program some of the finest artists in jazz today. All concerts take place at The Baltimore Museum of Art, 10 Art Museum Drive, Baltimore. Tickets are $125 for a five-concert subscription, $27 general admission, $25 for BMA Members and Senior Citizens, and $10 for students with ID at the door. Tickets for the Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes Duo are priced at $35 general admission, $33 for BMA Members and Senior Citizens, and $10 for students with ID. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 5 P.M. - Trio da Paz with Special Guests Harry Allen and Maucha Adnet featuring Romero Lubambo on guitar, Nilson Matta on bass, and Duduka Da Fonseca on drums, with Harry Allen on tenor saxophone and Maucha Adnet on vocals. Featuring three of Brazil's most in-demand musicians, Trio da Paz updates the infectious spirit of jazz-oriented Brazilian music. Formed in 1990, the Trio redefines Brazilian Jazz with their harmonically adventurous interactions, daring improvisations and dazzling rhythms. Add to the mix the tenor saxophone stylings of Harry Allen and the exquisite vocals of Maucha Adnet, and you have one hot evening of jazz. The free pre-concert talk begins at 4 pm. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 5 P.M. - The Winard Harper Sextet featuring Winard Harper on drums and balafon, Josh Evans on trumpet, Stacey Dillard on tenor saxophone, Sean Higgins on piano, Ameen Saleem on bass, and Alioune Faye on African percussion. Born and raised in Baltimore, Winard Harper has become one of the hottest drummers on the jazz scene today. Known for his passion and hard bop style, Harper's playing is considered both a virtuoso to hear and entertaining to watch play. SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2008, 5 P.M. - Rev-elation Plays the Music of Milt Jackson with Steve Nelson on vibes, Mike LeDonne on piano, Bob Cranshaw, on bass, and Mickey Roker on drums. Rev-elation came about in 1999, the year that the great vibes genius Milt Jackson died. The name refers to one of Milt's nicknames, “The Reverend," and the idea was to keep Milt's legacy alive by using his own rhythm section to play his book of music together with various vibes greats. In doing this, the aim was to bring the spirit of “Bags" into live performances once again. The free pre-concert tour begins at 4 pm. SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 2008, 5 P.M. - The Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes Duo. A night of double delights - two Steinway pianos nestled together with two great pianists. Bill Charlap is one of the most magical and methodical pianists on the scene today. SUNDAY, APRIL 27, 2008, 5 P.M. - The Annual Jazz Masters Concert featuring the Jimmy Heath Quartet with Jimmy Heath, tenor saxophone. It is fitting in a season of jazz treasures to save the crown jewel for the final concert. For the annual Jazz Masters concert, BCJS is proud to welcome the king of bop, Jimmy Heath. Long recognized as a brilliant instrumentalist and a magnificent composer and arranger, Heath has performed on more than 100 recordings and written over 125 compositions, many of which have become jazz standards.
