July 31, 2007; Monterey, California; In celebration of the Monterey Jazz Festival's new publication, The Art of Jazz: Monterey Jazz Festival / 50 Years, there will be a book signing party with the authors, Keith and Kent Zimmerman, and the book's designer, Jerry Takigawa, at the Sand City Borders on the Monterey Peninsula on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 7 PM. The book release party will feature The Art of Jazz: Monterey Jazz Festival / 50 Years along with other MJF merchandise.

Keith and Kent Zimmerman are a unique writing team of twin brothers. They covered jazz music on the radio for the Gavin Report, and are the coauthors of twelve books, including Rotten with John Lydon of the Sex Pistols, Orange County Choppers(tm): The Tale of the Teutuls, and the New York Times bestseller Hell's Angel: The Life and Times of Sonny Barger and the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club and Alice Cooper, Golf Monster: A Rock 'n' Roller's 12 Steps to Becoming a Golf Addict.

Designer and photographer Jerry Takigawa received a BA in art with an emphasis in painting from San Francisco State in 1967; he also studied photography with Don Worth. In 1969 he made a transition to photography and in the early 1970s, he moved from the San Francisco Bay area to the Monterey Peninsula. His black and white and color photography has won many awards, including the Imogen Cunningham Award in 1982. His photographs are held in public and private collections including the Monterey Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Hiroshima Museum of Modern Art, the Library of Congress, and the Brooklyn Museum.

Also included in the celebration will be a musical performance by the Remy & Pascal LeBoeuf Duo, on saxophone and piano. The LeBoeuf brothers are identical twins, and are recent graduates of the Manhattan School of Music. Born in Santa Cruz, they have been participants in the Festival's educational and performance programs, including the Next Generation Festival and the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra. They have won many national and international composition and performance awards in their twenty-one years.

The Art of Jazz: Monterey Jazz Festival / 50 Years features reproductions of posters by such artists and designers as Earl Newman, Eldon Dedini, Batista Moon Studios, Judy Anderson, Ron Grauer, Harry Briggs, Jeeun Lee and the book's designer, Jerry Takigawa. The book also includes a foreword written by legendary actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood (a member of MJF's Board of Directors), and a decade-by-decade look at the world and the Festival, explored through essays by the Zimmermans.

Photographs include rare shots of Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, B.B. King, Herbie Hancock, Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Dave Brubeck, Louis Armstrong, and many more. Striking the balance of historical precedent and aesthetic excellence, the photographs reveal an insight into the Festival and the artists.

Alongside the essays, posters and program covers, The Art of Jazz: Monterey Jazz Festival / 50 Years also has a comprehensive list of artists who have performed at MJF since the beginning, including the 50th celebration which will take place September 21-23, 2007.
