An Apollo audience advance viewing of excerpts from New York City's forthcoming opera based on the events which inspired writer Toni Morrison's acclaimed Beloved. Performances by New York City Opera cast members & commentary by composer Richard Danielpour, director Tazwell Thompson, & historian Dr. Delores M. Walters illuminate this powerful work & timeless message.
Vocal Landscapes: A Composer's Journey with Diedre Murray
Thursday, June 21st & Friday, June 22nd
Explore award-winning composer Diedre Murray's unique odyssey as a music innovator via selections from The Voice Within, an a cappella soundscape of identity, & Fangs, a tale of four African-American men returning to New Orleans. The night is enhanced by the musical voices of Ronelle Bey, Roosevelt A. Credit, Tulivu Donna Cumberbatch, Roberta Gumbel, LaTanya Hall, Griffin Matthews, & Richard Waits.
Support for the Salon Series June 2007 is provided by the New York State Music Fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
