SEATTLE WOMEN'S JAZZ ORCHESTRA (SWOJO) with special guest Jill Townsend

The Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra (SWOJO) will perform an all-ages concert at the Triple Door Mainstage in Seattle on Wednesday, September 20, featuring music composed, arranged and conducted by Jill Townsend.

Vancouver0based arranger/composer Jill Townsend is the principal composer and conductor for the Jill Townsend Big Band, a seventeen piece jazz ensemble. As a trombonist, Jill has performed with many notable artists including Kenny Wheeler, Natalie Cole, Ray Charles and Chuck Israels.

Jill's band has released their premiere CD, Tales from the Sea, which has received favorable attention in Canada, the US and Europe. The National Jazz Awards (Canada) nominated JTBB in 2006 for best “Large Jazz Ensemble".

She has had her music recorded and performed by various groups in Canada and the United States, most notably the Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra.

Jill will be a guest artist with SWOJO, who will perform a concert featuring her compositions in the fall of 2006.

SWOJO is proud to bring Jill to Seattle as the featured composer and conductor for this special concert. SWOJO has appeared on both North and South American stages since forming in January 2000, and will be the featured big band at the XVII Jazz en Lima Jazz Festival in Lima Peru in April, 2007.
