Summer Jazz Series Set In Newport Beach, California

Sunset Jazz at Newport, featuring straight ahead jazz performed by top jazz performers, begins July 11 and will continue for 10 more summer Wednesday nights at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel in Southern California.

The concerts take place at the outside Rose Garden, with patrons sitting comfortably at tables. There will be two sets, 6 and 7:30. Both one-hour sets are included in the ticket price. Food and beverages will be available. The schedule is as follows:

July 11 — Ernie Andrews Quartet with special guest Rickey Woodard with with Llew Matthews, Richard Simon (bass), Ralph Penland (drums)

July 18 — Wycliffe Gordon in “Hello Pops“:A tribute to Louis Armstrong with Luther Hughes (bass), Clayton Cameron (drums), Don Shelton (clarinet), Llew Mattthews (piano)

July 25 — Jackie Ryan with Bill Cunliffe (piano), Ryan McGillicuddy (bass), Dean Koba (drums) and special guest Rickey Woodard (tenor)

Aug. 1 — The Four Freshmen

Aug. 8 — Graham Dechter Quartet featuring Jeff Hamilton (drums)

Aug. 15 — Ken Peplowski Quartet with Mike Wofford (piano), Chuck Berghofer (bass), Joe LaBarbera (drums)

Aug. 22 — Jeff Hamilton Trio with Tamir Hendelman (piano), Christoph Luty (bass)

Aug. 29 — Byron Stripling/Bobby Floyd Quartet with Graham Dechter (guitar), Jeff Hamilton (drums)

Sept. 5 — Chuck Redd Quartet with Mike Wofford (piano), Derek Oles (bass) Rickey Woodard (tenor)

Sept. 12 — Mike Costley Quartet with Llew Mattthews (piano) Danny Flahive (bass), Bob Forte (drums), Brian Nova (guitar), Steve Alanie (tenor)

Sept. 19 — Judy Roberts & Greg Fishman Quartet featuring Jeff Hamilton and Chuck Berghofer
