San Francisco, CA - The idea behind Fundamental, Stuart Rosh's fourth album, started with a well-known quote from John Lennon, “Before Elvis, there was nothing." Stuart loves Lennon, but emphatically disagrees. He borrows from the sounds of the 40s and 50s, adds contemporary lyrics, and shows that there was a rich palette of music before Elvis. On Fundamental, you'll find a blend of original jazz, blues, cabaret, and r&b, plain old American Mutt Music, performed with freshness, humor, and verve.

Fundamental is set to be released digitally November 10th, 2008 and physically with national distribution January 20th, 2009.

Jazz.com says about Fundamental, “This is all about showmanship - a concept many times forgotten these days. I don't see how it is possible to not like this CD." Rock critic Robert Christgau of MSN.com and NPR gives Fundamental a Choice Cut award in his MSN.com monthly Consumer's Guide. The magazine Global Rhythm made one of the songs on Fundamental its Song of the Month.

Stuart Rosh (born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is a songwriter and singer who lives in San Francisco. A former geophysics professor from Duke University, he's lived in Italy, Israel and throughout the US. The child of Polish/Ukrainian immigrants and Holocaust survivors, Stuart grew up listening to and performing Yiddish (his first language), Russian and religious music. From the age of three until about twelve, he was obsessed with top 40 pop. Then he heard Muddy Waters and Miles Davis, and his taste moved from pop into the world of jazz, blues, and cabaret.

Stuart's first three albums were warmly received. The Real Detroit Weekly said, “This guy has mega chops: a beguiling cross-breeding cemented by lyrics that recall Cohen and Zevon." The Cincinnati CityBeat gave him a Critic's Pick and said, “It's like listening to 78s on a really great stereo."

Americana-UK made Stuart's first CD one of their Best of 2004. His second CD made Freight Train Boogie's Best of 2005. His third was in the Top 25 of 2007 for Indie- Music.com. His fourth is by far his best yet.

Stuart's band, The Geniuses, have played with the likes of the Rolling Stones, NRBQ, Delbert McClinton, Marshall Tucker, Leon Russell, Nanci Griffith, and the list goes on. “I wanted to put together a great band and just play live on tape to keep the spontaneity and energy level high," says Stuart about Fundamental.

Grammy-winning engineer and producer Richard Adler (Neil Young, Alison Krauss) kept the tape reels rolling. The result is an album that's rewarding to the ear, heart and mind, overflowing with great songs and musicianship.
