Guitarist Mimi Fox' She's The Woman Is Initial Release, March 23
Los Angeles, CA - Favored Nations, the label started by legendary guitarist Steve Vai, will launch a new sub-label dedicated to jazz artists, Favored Nations Cool.
At press time it was announced that guitarist Larry Coryell, and Novecento featuring Stanley Jordan had signed with the label.
The idea to eventually grow and branch out into other genres has always been our intention at Favored Nations," says Vai. I attended Berklee College of Music and studied jazz and discovered that, although some jazz sounds like meandering in a harmonic wilderness, some of it is quite inspired and stimulating. Ray Scherr, my partner, is a big fan of good jazz and our mission with Favored Nations Cool is to find brilliant and dedicated jazz musicians to work with."
Favored Nations Cool's initial release is She's The Woman (March 23 street date) by San Francisco bay area guitarist Mimi Fox, a rising star in the straight-ahead jazz field. I was stunned at how deep her emotional commitment was to her playing," says Vai. She has an extraordinary blend of musicianship, technical ability, and sheer passion. The type of musicians I want to sign are dedicated artists who never had to make a choice about being a jazz musician because they were always naturally attracted to it. Mimi is one of those."
Favored Nations, established in 1999, is best known for Eric Johnson, Johnny A, Larry Carlton & Steve Lukather's Grammy-winning collaboration, and others. Another of FN's sub-labels is Favored Nations Acoustic, showcasing distinctive and innovative 'unplugged' stylists.
