NEW YORK, NY, November 13, 2002 Chamber Music America celebrates its 25th anniversary with a marathon concert at Symphony Space on January 18, 2003. Seventeen ensembles that represent the extraordinary vitality and breadth of chamber music today will perform from 3 PM-11 PM. The concert is open to the public. Consistent with CMAs expansive definition of chamber music (one on a part, generally without a conductor), jazz, early music, and world music will have their place on stage along with 17th- through 20th-century European and American chamber music in this exhilarating eight-hour event. The scheduled performing ensembles are:

Anonymous 4
Fula Flute Ensemble
Meridian Arts Ensemble
Stefon Harris Quartet
Music From China
Castro-Balbi/Lin Duo
The Herrick Ensemble
New Century Sax Quartet
Chicago Chamber Musicians
Juilliard String Quartet
Peabody Trio
Concertante Chamber Players
Kamikaze Ground Crew
Walnut Hill Trio
Pete Malinverni Trio

Highlights among the performances will be the Meridian Arts Ensembles performance of Frank Zappas music for brass quintet and percussion; original works by Stefon Harris, the 29-year-old vibraphonist named Best Debut Artist by Jazz Times, Jazziz, Downbeat, Newsweek and the Jazz Journalists Association; and the premiere of a multimedia presentation by the New Century Saxophone Quartet, who perform a section of Bachs Art of Fugue with a 3-D animation of a lithograph by Elizabeth Harington, realized by Misha Films. The complete program follows this release on four pages.

Chamber Music America is the national service organization for the chamber music profession. The anniversary marathon concert is the first event in a year-long celebration of chamber music throughout the country. It is also the central event of CMAs National Conference, the annual gathering of the organizations membership for a weekend of concerts, workshops, seminars, and awards presentations. The marathon concert is the unique opportunity for the public to join with CMA members in attendance from around the country for this showcase of CMAs extraordinary ensembles.
