Spotify has acquired fellow Stockholm based startup Soundtrap, a popular web based recording studio. In a post announcing the deal, Spotify said that “Soundtrap's rapidly growing business is highly aligned with Spotify’s vision of democratizing the music ecosystem."

“Our two teams are culturally, creatively and strategically a great fit," the startup team writes in a post. “So Soundtrap- including all our staff- will continue to revolutionize the music-making process for consumers, educators and students from within the Spotify family."

It's unclear exactly how Soundtrap will be integrated with Spotify. But it's not hard to imagine that audio created using the online studio- including music and podcasts- could be uploaded directly to Spotify, thus bypassing traditional labels, distributors and aggregators.
