Affectionately referred to in french as “une bête de scène”, Joan is exceptional in intimate venues, where audiences live every lyric with her. Gliding easily between songs, in full command on stage, Joan ushers audiences through the deepest blues, before flashing her megawatt smile and moving them to tunes like “Love Wins” by Bill Cantos. She is the consummate entertainer.
ANGeLiCAS, Redwood City welcomes back Paris-Based American vocalist Joan Minor, for limited return engagement with The Joan Minor Quartet.

In five years, the Joan Minor Quartet has established a distinguished musical footprint from touring widely in France and across Africa. Strengths and interests of individual members result in mesmerizing performances, including syncopated rhythms picked up while touring the African continent. Favorites like “Willow Weep For Me" and “Love For Sale," take on new dimensions when performed by these musicians. Anchored in the mythic Paris Jazz scene, they receive rave reviews, such as:

From Patricia Myers at All About Jazz: June 6, 2015:

“The jazz scene in Paris thrives with a wide mixture of venues, from small cafes to large halls to more sophisticated settings. Among the latter is Cercle Suedois, the Swedish community's swanky meeting place that schedule weekly jazz concerts.

American vocalist Joan Minor, performing with a European rhythm section, filled the elegant main salon with her expressive sound in a wide-ranging repertoire. She's a class act with personal warmth and exceptional audience rapport...

Minor is known for straight-ahead jazz that always swings, but also adept on more modern charts, such as Esperanza Spalding's “I Know You Know." She delivered a bit of pop with Bill Withers' “Use Me Up," and moved info funk territory with Taj Mahal's “Further on Down the Road," for which bassist Christian Duperray switched to electric…

Minor performed in late May for the Grande Soirée Gospel & Negro Spiritual concert at L'Eglise Saint Sulpice as part of the Festival Jazz a Saint Germain des Pres in Paris. She will appear with her trio July 6-10 in Cotonou, Benin, West Africa, and then tour France for 10 days in late July with “The Ladies Voices: Chants Traditionnels Gospel."

This international, French/Afro-American collaboration breathes new life into standards from the American Songbook. Known as the Joan Minor Quartet, this group performs jazz classics with innovative fluidity, which flows from combining their varied backgrounds and occasionally surprise with original compositions.

The group consists of:

Joan Minor (vocalist)
Michael Dravigny (piano)
Etienne Brachet (drums)
Christian Duperray (bass)

These two shows are the West Coast leg of a tour which commenced with concerts in New York’s elegant The Metropolitan Room and a private event in Las Vegas. Pick up again with the band, after their return to action in Paris in June.

Her debut Album, Integrity Matters, received notable praise from B.B. King: “Beautiful voice… if you like light jazz with a good feel of tunes that we used to hear by the masters, you should hear this!”
