Swing! Episode 1--"When Swing Was King"

It's completely free, absolutely legal, presented in rich CD quality, and available for immediate listening or downloading right here.

Welcome to the first edition of a brand new show here on SoulandJazz.com, which expands our collective jazz lexicon even deeper to include the origins of jazz, and opens our internet portals ever wider to embrace the entire Swing era.

As cutting edge as some of our shows may be on Soulandjazz.com--it's important to acknowledge the history of Jazz in all its incarnations.

There was a time in American history when Jazz was celebrated--in fact, it was the most popular style of music in the country. It was soon exported throughout the world, and was enthusiastically embraced just about everywhere. This episode remembers some of the most popular songs and artists that were spreading their music throughout the world during the 1930's and 1940's, such as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and many more.

So hop aboard my swinging time machine and let me take you back to time when Swing was king and the big bands reigned supreme! Enjoy the ride!
