LOS ANGELES - Recording Artist and singer/songwriter/pianist Katherine Farnham will be appearing on the upcoming DVD “Inside the Music Business: Strategies for Success". The DVD project, created by Inside the Music Business founder Eric Kline, will feature showcase performances by Farnham and 7 other artists as well as panels by music industry veterans. The panels include Co-Host Adam Gaynor of the band Matchbox 20, as well as music industry attorneys, promoters, and publishing experts. The DVD is due to be released in the early part of 2008.
Katherine's style has been described as “Nora Jones meets Kelly Clarkson". A summa cum laude graduate of Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music, she first performed in public at age 5, and soon afterwards began to take piano lessons from her concert pianist mother. After going pro at 14 and winning local competitions, she won scholarships to study classical piano but later quit to go to Berklee. Her activities at Berklee showed a hint that she just might follow in the footsteps of alums Melissa Etheridge and Paula Cole. She soloed with The Gospel Choir, formed her own band and released a debut EP to rave reviews. “For the Love of it All" earned several CMJ charts, international airplay and a proclamation from a MIDEM journalist that she just might be the next American pop star.
Katherine was chosen to perform for the DVD project from over 60 - 70 artists who submitted their music via MySpace. Her DVD performance includes a liberating performance of the upbeat “Chemistry", the opening track from her forthcoming CD. Written and co-produced by Farnham, the track's arrangement was created by Doug Emery, who recently appeared on Barbra Streisand's album “Guilty Pleasures". Farnham says, “It was amazing to meet Adam and learn from all the panelists. Everyone was very down-to-earth and positive about possibilities for the new music industry. I feel grateful to have been part of the experience."
