Documentary filmmaking is by nature a labor of love, which explains Jessica Davis' dogged pursuit of the ongoing project In Between the Raindrops," an affectionate, episodic look at the history of jazz in Seattle.
An aspiring jazz vocalist who often performs at Tula's open-mic sessions, Davis got to know some of the scene's veteran players and realized that their stories might be lost if she didn't capture them on video. That was three years ago, and she's still toiling away.
It's kind of morbid, but there was a sense of urgency," says Davis, who's working with co-producer Joe Andolina. I didn't have time to go to school and learn to make a documentary. I had to throw myself into it and interview them while they're still here."
