Michele Mazzola
Saxophonist/composer Michele Mazzola recently released a stunning studio single titled “Who Knows.” This track is a great example of Mazzola’s creative range, and it is a stunning production with so much verve and liveliness. Mazzola is a truly excellent saxophonist, and his playing is quite understated, yet remarkably dynamic, as shown on “Who Knows.” The track features a soothing piano arrangement, with some emotional vocals, echoing some of the best Easy Listening, pop, and jazz out there. The lead vocals are soothing and sultry, and the duet in the song is perfectly spot on, revealing the incredible chemistry between the performers who appear on this release.

This is highly recommended if you are a fan of artists as diverse as Sam Smith, Adele, Michael Bublè or Celine Dion, only to mention a few. The production on this track is elegant and classy, yet catchy and vibrant. The song’s beginning is slow paced and intimate. However, the arrangement acquires a deeper, more articulate dimension, with the piano adding more ornaments and parts. Even the rhythm section grows into a more compact unit, with the introduction of a beautifully performed kit. The saxophone really shines towards the end of the track, giving the song a jazz vibe and a vintage flavor. It’s particularly amazing to hear how the two singers actually interact with the lead melodies of the sax, and it is almost like there are three different vocals performing some amazing ad-libs! The saxophone is an instrument, of course, but on this song it has a very vocal quality to it, infusing its character with a very human touch. This single is a perfect introduction to the work and music of Mazzola, and it is going to be a great addition to any music playlist. If you are a fan of piano-driven songs, this shouldn't be missed. Moreover, this would be great for fans of soft-jazz and smooth production aesthetics, with a very soothing, almost calming quality to it.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today.
