The progressive-rock improvising trio SAM, formed by bassist Julie Slick, guitarist Peter Alexius and Chapman Stick player Marc Mennigmann, announced the release of their long awaited debut album called Another Life and an additional EP called Yet Another Life on July 22nd, 2013. The album will be available on BandCamp first. Distribution on iTunes, Amazon, CDbaby, and several other digital record stores will follow later this month. The release of a physical 2 CD box is planned for the end of 2013.

Another Life is a selection of the best improvisations that were recorded in October 2012 at the Goldsoundstudio, a small recording-studio in Hagen-Hohenlimburg, Germany. Slick, Alexius and Mennigmann invited drummer Sven Kosakowski and guitarist Zaki Kiokakis to join them for a 4 days non stop recording session of freely improvised progressive rock music. During these days, more than 11 hours of music were created. In the following months they selected the very best 200 minutes of the session which will now be released on a 2 CD album and an additional EP.

Another Life will contain 31 tracks, a selection of duos, trios, quintets and quartets. Every track, every melody, every groove and every note is 100% improvised. “We are all completely thrilled, how well this worked out" says Marc Mennigmann. “The wordless communication of skilled musicians during instant improvised music is still one of the greatest mysteries but also one of the greatest gifts."

And since SAM made an experimental record, they will also have an experimental “virtual" release party on Facebook.
