'Rotten Tomatoes' Web Site Moves to TV

"You get your friends around and it's fun to trash the hell out of a movie," Brett Erlich begins. “But it's also fun to disagree with people. A lot of people loved Benjamin Button. I, for one, wanted to kill myself at many points during that film. If it was four hours, instead of three hours and 45 minutes, I might have done it."

David Fincher-induced suicide threats aside, it's a fairly apt summation of Erlich's new gig.

The Current TV writer, along with Chicago comedy veteran, Ellen Fox, has been tapped to co-host the interactive cable station's latest venture, “Rotten Tomatoes." Based on the popular site of the same name, the new show is a mix of movie reviews, news, and other tinsel town miscellany--with a twist, naturally. Much like its namesake, the show has a good deal invested in user-generated content.

“Ellen and Brett are going to lead the show, but the reviews that we're going to do are going to be coming from all different voices," “Rotten Tomatoes" executive producer, Jeff Plunkett, told AppScout. “That's one of the signature elements of the show. We're going to have a call out to our community of movie lovers. We're going to ask them to send in their reviews of the movies, each week."

“Rotten Tomatoes is used by such a huge group of people--we want to incorporate that," added Erlich. “We want to have segments where people tell us we're demigods for being so brilliant or that we're dumb for being so stupid. And we will relish that. We will love it."
