Philly roots rock band JD Malone & the Experts are earning consistently favorable coverage for their stellar new debut CD/DVD package, Avalon (ItsAboutMusic.com).

Declared “extraordinary" by Goldmine in its “Download of the Week" spotlight, “positively unshakeable" by the Iowa Press-Citizen and “dauntingly authentic" by AcousticMusic.com, Avalon has reviewers buzzing about this sparkling band led by a dynamic singer-songwriter “oozing with charisma" (Sirius XM) with a honey-sweet voice, and a roots rock/Americana sound that fits in real cozy-like within the Petty/Mellencamp/Steve Earle orbit.

All Music Guide praised Malone as an “accomplished stylist" and the Experts for providing “cohesive rock arrangements with the occasional hint of country, also suggesting the likes of [John] Mellencamp and [Steve] Earle." The Colorado Springs Independent hailed Avalon's"appealingly pretense-free roots rock built on solid musicianship and seriously catchy melodies," and the McKeesport (PA) Daily News found the album “uniformly excellent," with music “that will keep you coming back for more."

More than 70 Triple A, Americana and Country stations are spinning tracks from Avalon, which was the #4 Most Added at Americana during its week of release (July 12)—the highest new artist entry on the Americana (AMA) charts.

JD Malone & the Experts recently drew raves upon being tapped to open for Oscar-winning actor Tim Robbins and his acclaimed new band, the Rogues Gallery. The music of JD Malone & the Experts conjures something you might hear at a backwoods VFW Hall, drawing on the radio-friendly catalogues of classic American roots-rockers. Co-produced by Grammy winner Phil Nicolo (Lauryn Hill, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan) and Dean Sciarra of ItsAboutMusic.com, Avalon was declared “utterly captivating" in a five-star review by Sea of Tranquility, and features a 37-minute DVD documentary of the band in studio rehearsals, with a 12-page, full-color booklet containing all lyrics and personal bios of each band member. The CD version includes five bonus tracks not available for download, making it a full 79 minutes long.

While Malone clearly is in charge, much of Avalon's appeal comes from the remarkable chemistry of the band, including Malone (vocals, acoustic guitar), Avery Coffee (electric guitars, bg vocals), Tom Hampton (pedal and lap steel, 12-string, acoustic, resonator & electric guitars, bg vocals), Jim Miades (bass), Tommy Geddes (drums), and the extraordinary guest vocals of Jayda Hampton (especially on the beautifully wrenching “Black Yodel").
