NJPAC/WBGO Jazz for Teens Sponsored by Wachovia and Dodge Foundation

Created by NJPAC in conjunction with New Jersey's own jazz radio station, WBGO-Jazz 88.3 FM, Jazz for Teens is an extraordinary program designed to introduce New Jersey's teenage musicians to the spontaneity and excitement of an essential American art form - jazz! Budding musicians work with outstanding professional jazz musicians in exploring the history, techniques, and styles of jazz through both class work and performances. Jazz for Teens includes selected high school students who attend twenty full-day classes and concerts on Saturdays from September through May. At the conclusion of the fall semester, all students participate in a professional recording session. At the end of the spring semester, all students perform in a final concert that is open to the public. The activities in this program allow students the opportunity to gain experience, guidance and constructive criticism regarding their individual performance, as well as to enhance their performance within small ensembles.
