*. Percussionist David Pleasant presents a weekly study and practice of peculiar polyrhythmic forms. The class is challenging for musicians and non-musicians alike. It centers on the drum/rhythm as an intent-focused, semantic music: the drum is a voice rather than a time piece, framework, or marker. Gullah-Geechee folklorist Bessie Jones called it the DRUMFOLK. The whole person engages multiple metric, rhythmic, and time spheres all in the One; with time, not against it.
Wear hard soled shoes and comfortable clothes. Instruments are optional.
